Heron Island is a true coral cay right on the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. Here you can swim straight off the beach to an endless garden of coral where the waters are literally teeming with beautifully coloured fish and marine life.

  • Getting to Heron Island

    Air ConnectionsDiving Heron Island

    Regular flights are available from all Australian capital cities to Gladstone (GLT) with Qantas (QF). Gladstone is a 1 hour and 5 minute flight from Brisbane (or a 6 hour drive from Brisbane).

    Boat Transfers

    The scheduled boat transfer operates everyday except Tuesdays, Thursdays and Christmas Day.

    Arrival: The boat transfer departs Gladstone Marina for Heron Island at 2.00pm (subject to weather and tides). The scheduled coach transfer to Gladstone Marina departs Gladstone Airport at 11.30am approximately. Arrival flights to Gladstone Airport must land by 11.30am to get booked on the scheduled coach transfer    

    Departure: The boat transfer departs Heron Island at 10.00am and arrives into Gladstone Marina approximately two hours later (subject to weather and tides). The scheduled coach transfer to Gladstone Airport departs Gladstone Marina at 12.15pm approximately. Departing flights from Gladstone Airport must depart from 1.45pm to get booked on the scheduled coach transfer.    

    Seaplane Transfer

    The scenic seaplane transfer takes 25 minutes and operates daily (excluding Christmas Day) between 7am and 4.30pm from Gladstone, and between 8am to 5.30pm from Heron Island subject to availability, tide times and weather conditions.

    Please allow 75 minutes prior to arrival and departure to allow for check-in procedures. Baggage allowance of 15kg per person (including hand luggage) applies. A minimum of 4 passengers per flight are required to operate.

  • Amenities

    Heron Island is an exclusive island for guests only (there are no day-trippers here!). Rooms are television-free and there is no mobile phone reception.

    Amenities on the island include:

    - Shearwater Restaurant serving buffet-style breakfast and lunch on the deck with views of The Coral Sea. You can enjoy a three-course ‘table d’hote’ menu for dinner five days a week and try an ‘Aussie BBQ’ on Tuesday nights and a selection of local seafood presented on a Seafood Buffet on Saturday nights.
    - A deep resort swimming pool.
    - Pandanus Lounge and Baillie’s Bar , with an outdoor terrace, a cocktail bar, entertainment lounge, dance floor and a mezzanine level library area

  • Accommodation

    Heron Island has a total of 109 rooms all featuring a balcony or terrace, ceiling fan, refrigerator, tea & coffee making facilities, beach towels, alarm clock, ironing facilities, ensuite with shower, hairdryers and umbrellas. To help guests leave the outside world behind televisions and telephones, while available on the island, are not found in guest rooms (telephones are available in Point Suites, Wistari Suites and the Beach House).

    The Beach House and Suites also feature a mini-bar, CD player and are air conditioned (except the Beachside Suites)

    Turtle Rooms

    Heron Island Turtle Room ExteriorLocated in a garden setting a short walk away from the beach. Built in duplex fashion with two rooms per block, all Turtle Rooms are at ground level and feature a large deck and outdoor area.

    Reef Room

    Reef Room, Heron Island - Dive Adventures AustraliaPositioned closer to the beach, Reef Rooms offer reef and water views through a canopy of beachside trees. The living area extends outdoors to a balcony or garden setting; interiors are light-filled, modern and comfortable.

    Standard and Family Rooms are available.

     

    Heron Beachside Suites

    Beachside Suite, Heron Island, Queensland - Dive Adventures AustraliaOffers absolute beach frontage with direct access to the water and views of the reef. Generous in size with villa-style inclusions. Double glass sliding doors fill the room with natural light and connect both the bedroom and living space to a large outdoor balcony. Also boasts a large bathroom and an in-room CD player.

     

    Point Suite

    Point Suite, Heron Island, Queensland - Dive Adventures AustraliaPoint Suites are spacious in design and include a large ensuite and separate dressing room.

    A generous living area extends through glass doors to an extensive outdoor terrace where sun lounges, for the exclusive use of Point Suite guests can be found.

     

    Wistari Suites

    Witsari Suite, Heron Island, Queensland - Dive Adventures AustraliaAn excellent alternative for guests seeking maximum privacy. Located on the point and situated within a garden setting with ocean views. Interiors are spacious with contemporary design elements including a 3 seater couch and armchair and King Size bed in an area separate to living.

    A private outdoor terrace features stylish wooden furniture and a two person hammock.

    The Beach House

    Beach House, Heron Island, Queensland - Dive Adventures AustraliaOffers stylish accommodation with a high degree of privacy. Set within a grove of trees, a private boardwalk provides access to the beach.

    Air conditioned and offers a separate bedroom with spacious ensuite including a bath and shower. Contains an expansive living area including large sofa and a work desk with direct dial STD/IDD phone.

    The Beach House also offers its own private outdoor shower

    There are over 30 different dive sites around Heron Island, more than half of which are just fifteen minutes from the beach.

    Some noteable dive sites around Heron include:

    Heron Bommie

    One of the most photographed dive sites in the country. Resident marine life is fantastic including schooling jacks, Barracuda, Strawberry Hussars plus Moray Eels, Sharks, Eagle Rays and Mantas. This series of bommies is located 2 minutes from the harbour. 5-20 meters.Heron Island Manta Ray

    Walts Bommie

    Relatively flat sandy bottom surrounding a series of scattered bommies. The site attracts Green and Loggerhead turtles, Black and White Tip Reef Sharks and cradles a wealth of colorful Nudibranchs. 14 meters.

    Coral Grotto

    Affectionately known as the Turtle Grotto. You can see turtles everywhere. Asleep, swimming, feeding or just being Turtles. 8-18 meters.

    Gorgonia Hole

    Gorgonia and fan corals abound on the spectacular reef edge. Discover Mantas, Reef Sharks and Turtles. 7-16 meters.

  • Rates

    It's what you don't see around Heron that makes the resort so special. You won't see any buildings above the tree line and you won't bump into any day trippers either. The reef experience on Heron is exclusively for guests, a unique experience few other resorts in the world can offer.

    There are 6 styles of suites on the island, catering to all tastes and budgets.

    Does not include: scuba gear rental or night dives. Dives are not inter-changeable between guests. Terms and conditions apply. An additional Environmental Management Charge of $6.50 per person per day (for guests 5 years and older) to a maximum of $19.50 per person per stay will be charged directly.
