Mai Dive is a small, intimate Eco-style resort offering very personalised service. It is a true Fijian getaway with all the creature comforts you would need in a very picturesque setting - the perfect spot with the Great Astrolabe Reef right on their doorstep.
Set on 47 acres of picturesque surrounds, Mai Dive has a beautiful 1 kilometre long beach with its very own house reef sitting in front of the resort. A kilometre beyond that, the Great Astrolabe Reef starts. Thick tropical jungle ambling up a steep mountain backs off the resort. If you have the energy to make the climb, you will be rewarded with the most beautiful view of the many small islands of the North Astrolabe.
Fiji is the soft coral capital of the world and the Astrolabe is the 4th largest barrier reef in the world. Mai Dive’s location is at the northern end of the Kadavu Group on Ono Island which is perfectly positioned for easy access to some of the best dive and snorkel locations the Astrolabe Reef has to offer.
The Mai Dive house reef stretches offshore for 800 metres from the resort and contains a maze of colourful corals and fish life - all you have to do is just walk out from the beach.
Following a 50 minute domestic flight from Nadi to Vunisea Airport on the island of Kadavu, you will then be transferred 1.5 – 2 hours by boat transfer to the resort taking in the scenic coastline on the way. On arrival at Mai Dive, warm Fijian smiles will welcome you to your new home for the duration of your stay.
The common area is the focal point for the entire property. The restaurant and common area is just off the beach and lined with tropical plants. Freshly prepared, traditionally made dishes with local ingredients grown from the eco-friendly garden and seafood caught in the surrounding sea, are served at the restaurant. The bar fridge is stocked with local beers, imported wines, mixed spirits and soft drinks.
Fresh coffee and tea is available all day, along with light food refreshments throughout the day. The common area has a TV and DVD player, guitar, iPod dock, reading material, telephone and laptop with internet connection.
The onsite Dive Centre offers daily dives, gear rental and Discover Scuba and Open Water courses. Availability of dive courses are on request.
Mai Dive has only 5 bures which are strung across the resort, all absolute beachfront and just metres to the sand. The property caters to a maximum of 16 guests at any one time, usually only having 10 guests or less and is small enough to hire the whole resort and organise your own private itinerary on a daily basis with the help of the experts on hand.
There are 3 standalone bungalows of varying sizes and of a simple, sturdy timber construction with an insulated roof and screened in windows. The Beachfront Lodge has 2 bungalows which can be merged so friends and family can all stay under the one roof or they can be booked individually, separated by a lockable middle room to give space and privacy.
The South Bungalow Room in the Lodge is the largest room at Mai Dive with a queen sized bed and 2 single beds – perfect for a family of four. The North Bungalow Room in the Lodge is smaller in size, perfect for a couple. This room has the advantage of an adjoining small room with a set of bunk beds, a great place for children to stay. The small room can only be used by people booking the entire Beachfront Lodge – otherwise it is closed for the privacy of the individual parties.
All bungalows have 24 hour 240V electricity, fan cooling, screened windows, mosquito nets, private deck, ensuite bathroom, open hot water shower, outdoor chairs and your very own hammock. The bungalows in the Beachfront Lodge share a deck overlooking the beach.
Guided tours and activities include scuba diving, kayaking (free use of kayaks and guided kayak tours possible on request), snorkeling on Mai Dive’s House Reef or going on a fantastic snorkel excursion including snorkelling with manta rays and sharks. Take a sunset cruise to Bird Island in the North of the Astrolabe Lagoon and watch the sun setting in the west, or spend the day on your own slice of paradise on a deserted beach equipped with kayaks, deck chairs and an amazing picnic lunch. Trek to a local Fijian village, experience a kava night or fish for Giant Trevally.
The Astrolabe offers divers a lot of diversity. There are drift dives in big open passages like Naqoro & Vesi. Fantastic swim through’s and coral bombies at the Alacrity Rocks region. An endless amount of pristine reef walls on the outside of the Astrolabe with coral pinnacles. And also special places inside the lagoon like the several locally managed marine reserves and Manta Ray cleaning stations.
