Blue Lagoon Resort

Blue Lagoon Resort is located on a palm fringed point of Weno Island, amongst 14 acres of tropical gardens with a white sand beach and breathtaking views of the largest lagoon in the world. The resort has 54 rooms set in low, 2 storey buildings blending into the island surroundings and is the most suitable option in Truk Lagoon for divers with non-diving partners.

During WWII, the Blue Lagoon Resort grounds were utilised by the Imperial Japanese command. Many wartime relics and structures remain on the grounds today including armament and defensive "pillboxes".

Chuuk’s first dive facility, Blue Lagoon Dive Shop, was established on 13 November, 1973 by Kimiuo Aisek. The Dive Shop is now Truk Lagoon’s largest diving operation (still locally owned by the Aisek family), catering for all levels of divers from novice to technical and rebreather divers, and is located adjacent to Blue Lagoon Resort.

  • Getting There

The 6km drive from Chuuk International Airport to Blue Lagoon Resort takes approximately 30 minutes along a poorly maintained road.

Air Niugini has connections from Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns via Port Moresby (and Pohnpei) to Chuuk.

United Airlines offers a service between Guam and Chuuk along with an island hopper service from Honolulu to Chuuk via Majuro, Kwajalein and Pohnpei several times a week.

  • Amenities

The hotel boasts an excellent restaurant, lounge bar and outdoor bar. The Sunset Bar by the jetty is a great place to relax after a day’s diving to watch the beautiful sunsets. There is a small gift shop and computer centre next to reception and wi-fi is available in the restaurant and lobby. Located on the grounds of the Blue Lagoon Resort is the local dive operator, the Blue Lagoon Dive Centre. The dive shop is air-conditioned and provides sales, service, classes, equipment rental and dive trips from early morning to night dives, catering for air, Nitrox or mixed gas divers.

  • Accommodation

The resorts guest rooms all have individual balconies with spectacular lagoon views and feature a tropic theme capturing the property’s surrounding natural beauty. Each air-conditioned room has private facilities with a shower and full bath, refrigerator, telephone and TV.

Room accommodations range from Standard Rooms on the ground floor, Superior Rooms on the 2nd floor to a Deluxe Suite with king bed, separate living room and kitchen facilities.

  • Activities

As scuba diving is the main activity in Truk, Blue Lagoon Dive Centre offers a fleet of fast dive boats and knowledgeable guides providing easy access to the wrecks and allowing divers the freedom to dive in small, personal groups. For family members or friends who are non-divers, the World War II history filled island has taxi service and private tour buses that offer visits to historic and cultural sites. There are also kayak and scooter rentals available & the hotel can arrange visits to the distant atolls for snorkelling & fishing trips, as well as overnight stays on Jeep Island and Fonumu Island. You can also snorkel in the lagoon right in front of the resort.

  • Diving

Diving with Blue Lagoon Dive Shop is flexible and fun. Having a large fleet of dive boats means they can accommodate varying groups of divers in small groups, enabling you to explore the wrecks of Truk Lagoon at your own pace. The Dive Shop can cater for recreational, technical and rebreather diving needs with the provision of air, Nitrox (up to EANx40) and mixed gas. A limited quantity of Helium and Sodasorb is stocked and should be reserved well in advance to ensure an adequate quantity is available for tech divers. Manifold and bands for twinsets, various size deco bottles, O2 service regulators, and air or EANx dive computers are all available for rent to support dives.

The world’s best WWII wreck diving is just a short boat ride from The Blue Lagoon Resort. Truk Lagoon has over 60 wrecks, many only recently discovered - ships, aircraft, battle tanks, vehicles, and a large assortment of WWII armament.
