Located 5 minutes from the airport, White Grass Ocean Resort is the ideal place to stay and experience the unique island of Tanna. The resort is nestled amongst 6 acres of lush vegetation with meandering paths leading to a white sand beach, rock caves and coral formations. White Grass Ocean Resort is situated on the north-west coastline of Tanna, overlooking the South Pacific Ocean. Eighteen island style bures nestle into the lush and colourful gardens, each with a sea view and just a short stroll to the swimming pool.
The warm ocean temperatures of Tanna provide excellent diving and snorkeling on the coral reef, only 100 metres from the bures with easy access from the private jetty. A stay at White Grass Ocean Resort is the perfect place from which to experience the real Vanuatu with its unique culture and unchanged traditions, and most of all, its mighty Mt. Yasur volcano and beautiful blue swimming holes.
Upon landing at Tanna Airport after a short 45 minute flight from Port Vila, smiling staff will assist you in the collection of your luggage and then drive you the 2 kilometres to the resort.
The restaurant, bar and guest lounge area with outdoor deck have uninterrupted panoramic ocean views. The a-la-carte menu is updated daily using freshly caught fish and seafood, free-range poultry, grass fed Vanuatu beef and locally sourced organic fruit and vegetables. There is a swimming pool, guest library, resort shop with basic essentials and souvenirs and tour desk. Wifi is available in the Lounge / Bar area. Use of snorkeling equipment, sea kayaks, bicycles, pitch ‘n’ put golf, tennis, volleyball, badminton and petanque is complimentary, along with free guided snorkeling to Turtle Reef.
The Nabisa Day Spa offers a wide range of treatments to enhance your mind, rejuvenate your body and inspire your soul during your stay at White Grass Ocean Resort. The onsite dive centre offers shore and boat dives, scuba courses and scuba gear rental.
There are 18 private beachfront bungalows decorated in traditional Melanesian style and surrounded by beautifully manicured tropical gardens. All bungalows have en-suite bathroom with hot water shower and 24 hour electricity, mosquito canopied beds and cool tiled floors, ceiling fans, tea and coffee making facilities, mini refrigerator, screened windows, private verandahsand spectacular ocean views.
The bures are suitable for singles, couples or families of up to 5 people.

Triple Bure : king bed (or twin beds) and single bed (suitable for three singles or a small family, max. 3 people)
Family Bure : queen or king bed plus 2 single beds (max. 4 people)
Family Bungalow : queen bed plus 3 single beds (max. 5 people). Overlooks the pitch‘n’put golf course with some ocean views. The separate bedroom has a queen size bed, a large wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom. The lounge area is furnished with comfortable sofas, a table and chairs, small kitchenette and 3 single beds.
3 x 2 Bedroom Ocean View Family Bures : available as of 1 April 2018; king bed plus 2 single beds (max. 4 people). Featuring 2 bedrooms and 2 ensuite bathrooms, lounge with kitchenette, table and chairs, sofa, outside balcony with hardwood timber railing and comfortable outdoor timber chairs over looking the pitch ‘n’ put golf course on one side and ocean views to the front. The elevated plantation style bures take advantage of the natural ventilation and have partial ocean views. Suitable for families or 2 couples/friends travelling together.
Snorkelling and diving in safe waters amongst the prolific fish life, enhanced by regular visits from the local turtle and dolphin population.
The snorkelling is spectacular along the reef in front of the resort. Blue Hole 1 or 2, and the Piccanini Hole are other great snorkeling locations in walking distance of the resort. Blue Hole 1 and 2 are natural holes in the reef system, so named by the locals due to the colour of the water. A free guided snorkel tour to see green sea turtles at the Turtle Reef in front of the resort is available.
Your stay includes the free use of bikes, sea kayaks and snorkel equipment or have a game of lawn tennis, pitch 'n' putt golf, pétanque, volleyball, badminton or croquet.
A number of 4WD safaris and adventure tours operate daily, the highlight being a safari to the crater of Yasur Volcano, where you come face to face with the glowing vents of lava and magma spurting into the night’s sky.
Other tours include a custom village safari; cultural tribal experiences; a rainforest, waterfall and black sand beach tour; and a tour to the underwater Blue Cave.
Volcano Island Divers is the only dive operator on Tanna and is located at White Grass Ocean Resort. The volcanic island of Tanna offers dramatic marine landscapes, including caves, reef walls, amazing swim throughs and caverns, and a myriad of creatures and critters. Green sea turtles and a resident dugong are big attractions. Shore and boat dives are available.
The House Reef is easily accessible from the resort’s purpose built jetty. Dive amongst amazing coral formations and interesting topography. Dugongs, turtles, moray eels, reef sharks and blue spotted rays can be seen. Max. depth 20 metres.
There are many caves, swim throughs and interconnected tunnels to explore in the area including those at Blue Hole 1 and 2, Blue Cave and Micks Folly. Large bommies with giant clams, hard coral gardens with clown fish colonies and a wall and drop off with pelagic fish action are other features.
MV Jean Percy struck a reef during heavy seas in 2010 and now sits upright in 14 metres of water, just 20 metres offshore, making for a nice little wreck dive. Cargo remains in the holds, along with other equipment on board. Penetration to the engine room and other areas are possible.
