A very popular tour, perfect for the free afternoon of decompressing the day before flying, is the Tangkoko National Park Tour, where guests can see many land 'critters' such as the famous Tarsiers and Black Crested Macaques. Take a cooking class or visit the local villages and traditional markets. Snorkel and dive.
The Lembeh Strait is widely recognised by marine biologists as having the world’s highest concentration of rare and unusual marine life. The practice of muck diving, also known as critter or macro diving, began in Lembeh Strait in the mid 1990’s when marine biologists started to explore the black sand slopes of Lembeh Strait to identify the amazing diversity of animals that inhabit the underwater realm of Lembeh Strait. Today, divers who enjoy both macro as well as wide-angle underwater photography travel from all over the world to experience this magical place in North Sulawesi.
The resort has grown to encapsulate the essence of scuba diving and underwater imagery. The dive centre, Critters@Lembeh Resort, has five purpose built dive boats. The dive team consists of seasoned dive-guides with more than a collective 70,000 dives, a full time marine biologist and the first and only full time Photo-Centre in the Lembeh Strait. The guest-to-guide ratio of (maximum) 4:1 ensures personal attention that will help you see most, if not all, of the critters on your wish lists. Unlimited diving is offered to resort guests, with the majority of the 50+ sites within the Strait only a quick, comfortable boat ride away.
Whilst Lembeh Strait is famous for critter diving, it does offer a nice mix of both “muck” and coral diving. Just on the outside of the strait are beautiful and healthy corals reefs. Also many of the so-called muck dive sites are actually a good mix of sandy slope in the deeper regions and stunning coral heavens in shallower water. The dive centre also offers frequent day trips to the amazing soft coral reefs around Bangka.
