Misool Eco Resort is a luxury dive resort and conservation centre built in splendid isolation about 100km (4-5 hour boat ride) southwest of Sorong on the private island of Batbitim. Surrounded by an archipelago of uninhabited islands, it is difficult to imagine a more remote location.
There are 8 Water Cottages and 2 Deluxe Villas on stilts with over-water verandahs fringing the stunning North Lagoon as well as 2 larger villas in a more remote settings on the sands of South Beach for a total of 32 guests.
Misool Eco Resort is closed July, August, and September each year for maintenance.
Misool’s house reef is home to large schools of fish, feeding baby sharks and many species of nudibranchs with hunting octopuses, mating mandarin fish and other species as rare as the ‘walkng epaulette shark’ to be observed. Beginning on a gentle slope, these explorations often turn into drift dives when the tide is right, ending in a steep coral wall patrolled by grey reef sharks and other predators. There are 4 boats taking divers in small groups to 60 dives sites within a radius of 1-hour boat rides, and at least 25 of these can be reached in under 20 minutes.
The resort also established a vast marine park with a No Take Zone extended over 1200 sq kms, and every diver plays a vital part in securing its continued existence.
All cottages and villas are air-conditioned
and have handcrafted furniture and fittings, Balinese-style open air bathrooms, fresh hot and cold showers, mini bars and in-room safes. Each building has been constructed from reclaimed tropical hardwoods.
8 Water Cottages stand on stilts with over-water verandas and hammock offering privacy, shade and direct access to the North Lagoon and House Reef. The restaurant and dive centre are just a short walk away.
