Walindi Plantation Resort is an intimate dive resort that has been welcoming scuba divers since 1983. After a 90 minute plane ride from Port Moresby, followed by a 50 minute drive from Hoskins Airport, you will arrive at Walindi Plantation Resort which is surrounded by tropical rainforest and opens onto picturesque Kimbe Bay.
The resort has previously been voted "The Best Diving Resort Anywhere in the World" by reader surveys. Photo-journalists from all over are attracted to Walindi and many award winning underwater images have been taken in the region. Good company, great food, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere provide the perfect background while you enjoy the delights of Kimbe Bay.
Walindi is relaxed and uncrowded with 12 self-contained bungalows spread along the beachfront. The bungalows are constructed from local materials with thatched roofs and are fully screened with large windows, private bathroom, kitchenette, tea and coffee making facilities, small fridge, ceiling fans, a double and single bed and private verandah overlooking the beach and gardens.
The 8 Plantation House rooms are nestled amongst the rainforest gardens, and have all the same facilities as the Bungalows but on a smaller scale, with four rooms to a building, each room in each block sharing a common verandah. They have either two single beds or one double bed.
The central resort is the main hub of activity and consists of the following:
Restaurant: 3 meals a day are included in your stay and meal times are set. Breakfast and lunch is a la carte whilst dinner is normally served buffet style and includes a mix of Western and Asian cuisine featuring local seafood, fruit and vegetables. Coffee and tea is always available.
Bar: fully stocked with mixed drinks, beer & selection of wines, soft drinks, bottled water and snacks.
Lounge and Library: situated in the main Plantation House, with comfortable seating and extensive range of marine, fiction & non-fiction literature. Free Wi-Fi and TV viewing is also available.
The resort also has a swimming pool and sundeck, free daily laundry service, a boutique selling artefacts and souvenirs and baby sitting and child minding services. Walindi Dive Centre is also on site.
Walindi Dive has 3 dive boats that can carry 6-12 divers on each, operating everyday on a 2 or 3 dive per day basis. Comprehensive equipment rental and Nitrox is available from the dive shop.
Walindi’s management policy is committed to supporting the unique ecology of Kimbe Bay both below and above the water. To this end, the resort is supporting the establishment by the European Union of a Nature and Marine Research Centre within the resort grounds, which will continue to monitor and research all aspects of Kimbe Bay and West New Britain ecosystems.
Snorkelling equipment is available for hire and you can swim off the jetty or along the beach. Casual nature bush walks or village walks with a guide are available or you could opt for a longer volcano walk.
Other activities include guided bird watching walks, tours to visit the Hot River and swim in thermal springs, viewing WWII plane wrecks, a Kimbe town and oil palm industry excursions.
